I hated it as passionately as you loved it, Jack. The heaviest-handed satire in the history of satire. Good thing Quaid chewed every trace of scenery, as we might otherwise not have deduced that his sort of person is monstrous. And it seemed to take 12 hours to end. I must have thought to myself, "OK, we get it. Uncle!" a dozen times in the last 45 minutes. In fairness, my wife loved it.

Yeah, maybe there's a gender split on this one. After ten minutes, I was like, "Yeah, I get it." And then I appreciated how it pushed the envelope but there was nothing new to learn. Maybe it hits differently for women, though.

A great review, though, particularly with the Tinto Brass shout-out.

It's certainly not for everyone's tastes, to be sure. The stylistic maximalism, sledgehammer-blunt satire, and outrageously over-the-top finale are bound to be turn-offs for some. This kind of thing is my jam, but I understand why it wouldn't be for others. That's art, baby!
